Kasera is privacy-first by design. We never sell your data, never share it with advertisers, and never use tracking or ad networks. Calendar data never leaves your device. All other household data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and isolated so only your household can access it.
Who we are
Kasera ("we," "our," or "us") is a meal planning application designed to help families plan meals, manage groceries, and reduce food waste. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Kasera mobile application and the kasera.app website.
How Kasera stores your data
Kasera uses a local-first architecture. Your data is stored in a database on your device (SQLite) and synced to a secure cloud database (hosted on Supabase) to enable multi-device access and household sharing between family members.
This means your household data — including family profiles, allergies, dietary restrictions, pantry items, and in future versions, meal plans and grocery lists — exists in two places: on your device and in our cloud sync database. The cloud copy is encrypted in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest, and each household's data is isolated using Row Level Security so that no other household can access your information.
Our backend API (hosted on Vercel) is stateless and does not store user data. It handles authentication, and in future versions will relay anonymized requests to our AI meal planning service and route grocery affiliate links.
Calendar data is the exception. If you connect your calendar, that data is read and processed entirely on your device. Calendar data is never synced to our cloud database, never sent to our servers, and never shared with any third party.
What data we collect
We collect the minimum data necessary to provide the service:
Account information from Google Sign-In: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier. We use this solely to create and authenticate your Kasera account. We do not access your Google contacts, Google Drive files, or any other Google data beyond basic profile information.
Household data you enter: When you use the app, you provide information about your household. This includes family member names, dietary restrictions, food allergies, age groups, pantry items, quantities, and expiration dates. This data is stored on your device and synced to our cloud database to enable multi-device and multi-member access.
Waitlist email (website only): If you join our waitlist on kasera.app, we collect your email address to notify you when Kasera launches. This is processed by Formspree, a third-party form service. We do not use your waitlist email for any other purpose.
What data stays exclusively on your device
The following data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to any server:
- Calendar events and schedule data (if you connect your calendar)
Calendar context is stripped before any data is sent to external services. We designed this separation specifically so that your schedule and personal calendar details remain fully under your control.
How we may use AI for meal suggestions
Kasera plans to use artificial intelligence to generate personalized meal plans. When requesting meal suggestions, we will send anonymized household context to our AI provider — this will include dietary restrictions, allergy information, and general preferences, but never personal names, calendar event details, medical information, or any data that could identify your family. AI meal planning features are not yet active and this section will be updated when they launch.
Grocery affiliate links
Kasera may offer the option to order groceries through partner services such as Instacart, Walmart, Amazon Fresh, and Kroger. If you use this feature, your grocery list items will be sent to the selected partner. We will receive a small referral fee from these partners. We will not share your personal information, family profiles, or dietary data with grocery partners — only the grocery list items you choose to send. This feature is not yet active.
Data we do NOT collect or share
- We do not sell your personal data to anyone, ever
- We do not share your data with advertisers
- We do not use tracking pixels, ad networks, or behavioral analytics that identify you
- We do not store or access your passwords (authentication is handled by Google)
- We do not read, store, or transmit your calendar event content to our servers
- We do not use your household data for any purpose other than providing the Kasera service to you
Data retention and deletion
Your household data exists on your device and in our cloud sync database. If you uninstall Kasera, your local data is removed with the app, but your cloud-synced data remains until you request deletion.
To delete your account and all associated cloud data, email us at hello@kasera.app. We will delete your account, household data, and all associated cloud-synced data within 30 days of your request.
Waitlist emails are retained until launch and then deleted unless you choose to create an account.
Children's privacy
Kasera is designed for use by adults managing household meals. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Family member profiles (including children's names and allergy information) are created and managed by the adult account holder. This data is stored on the account holder's device and synced to our cloud database as described in this policy.
Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS/SSL) for all data in transit, encryption at rest for cloud-synced data, and Row Level Security at the database level to isolate each household's data from all others. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Third-party services
Kasera uses the following third-party services:
- Google — for account authentication (Sign-In with Google)
- Supabase — for cloud database hosting and user authentication
- PowerSync — for real-time data synchronization between your device and the cloud database
- Formspree — for processing waitlist signups on our website
- Vercel — for hosting our website and backend API
In future versions, we plan to use Anthropic (Claude AI) for generating meal plan suggestions. When active, it will receive only anonymized dietary context, never personal data. This section will be updated when AI features launch.
Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you, including your account information and household data stored in our cloud database
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing hello@kasera.app
- Disconnect your Google account at any time
- Opt out of the waitlist at any time by contacting us
For California residents (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. For EU residents (GDPR): You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold, including household data in our cloud database, by contacting us at hello@kasera.app.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes through the app or by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was most recently revised.
